Details....Details.....

One of the details of proper USN firefighting is battle dressing. Here cadets are instructed in the proper way to do that. One of the unique things about YP-671 is that we are docked in the Chicago River. In order to get out on Lake Michigan we have to transit the Chicago River Locks. The Lake being higher than the River, the locks allow vessels to get from one to another. Transiting the Locks requires skilled line handling. You get a lot of practice line handling ! Below are cadets working Line #4 while in the Chicago Locks.

Remember, SAFETY is our PRIMARY concern for all cadets aboard YP-671. We want you to have an interesting, educational, fun and SAFE experience aboard. While YOU will be doing the work, you will be supervised by competent adult volunteers.
