The Adventure of a Lifetime Begins...

Sea Cadets reporting aboard the Yard Patrol Boat Manatra, YP-671, had to first learn the basics of nautical life with training in morning colors (the raising of the flag), proper wearing of safety helmets and floatation gear, and salty seamanship skills like the working of knots and the throwing of lines for distance and accuracy.  After several days' training the new shipmates set sail from Chicago's DuSable Harbor across from Navy Pier.  Our summer sailors steamed out of the locks headed for Manitowoc, Wisconsin, then across Lake Michigan to Muskegon, Grand Haven and finally St. Joseph's Michigan near journey's end.
