NSCC Girls Training

These are but a few of the shots we took aboard YP-671 during the girls training cruise

This was the first time anyone could remember that an all female group of sea cadets took part in a shipboard training. They all did an outstanding job and displayed genuine teamwork and seamanship skills.

Pictured at the left is the crew, all from Inaugural Division out of St. Louis, MO. Their travel time to Chicago was about 6 hours. They arrived late on Thursday. Training started in Friday morning, dockside with linehandling and heaving line practice. We followed this up in the afternoon with basic firefighting and man-overboard recovery techniques. We got underway Saturday for 6 hours of sailing time and the cadets departed for home Sunday after a stop at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry.
